Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and 7 others others confirmed dead

Four members of Ghana’s government – Defense Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Alhaji Limuna Muniru, Mr. Samuel Sarpong and 4 others confirmed dead in a helicopter crash in the southern Ashanti region, precisely Asikaman near Akrofrom on Wednesday, according to the Chief of Staff to the Ghanian President.

 

Ghana’s Armed Forces said earlier on Wednesday that it had lost contact with a Z9 helicopter that was en route from the capital of Accra to Obuasi, a mining town in Ghana.

It said five passengers and three crew were on board the flight.

Julius Debrah, the chief of staff, said in a video statement that flags will fly half mast until further notice. 

The Ghana Armed Forces, along with other relevant agencies, are expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.

According to eye witness reports, four crew members were burnt to death instantly.
