Meet Haruna Iddrisu, the current education minister and the dedicated Member of Parliament for Tamale South! He’s been serving his community since 2005 and is known for his great communication skills, logical thinking, and practical solutions to problems. 

*A Summary of His Legal and Political Journey*

Haruna earned his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Ghana, Legon, and later completed his Barrister-at-Law certification at the Ghana School of Law. As a proud member of the Ghana Bar Association since 2002, he has built a strong reputation in law and public policy.



*Leadership in Parliament

Since being elected in December 2004, Haruna has been a consistent voice for the people of Tamale South. He served as the Minority Leader in Parliament from 2017 to 2023, contributing to the Parliamentary Service Board and chairing the Committee on Administration and Human Resources. His influence extends beyond Ghana’s borders—between 2017 and 2020, he was involved with the Inter-Parliamentary Union, where he co-led discussions on sustainable development, finance, and trade. Additionally, in 2011, he made an impact as a Commissioner on the ITU/WHO Commission for Women and Children's Health.

*Ministerial Highlights*

Throughout his career, Haruna has held several key ministerial roles, including:

- Minister for Communications (2009-2013): He introduced initiatives like Mobile Number Portability, SIM Card Registration, and the Data Protection Law, all aimed at enhancing competition and ensuring privacy in telecommunications.



Minister for Trade and Industry (2013-2014): He focused on boosting trade and industrial development here.

- Minister for Employment and Labour Relations (2014-2017): He proudly led Ghana’s delegation to the International Labour Organisation’s conferences, fostering important discussions on technical cooperation.

*Early Leadership*

Haruna's political journey began in 1996 when he served as President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS). His leadership during this time was impactful, and he remains one of the union's most celebrated leaders.

*Personal Touch*

Outside of his political responsibilities, Haruna is a big sports fan! On weekends, you can often catch him playing football and engaging with his constituents in Tamale. His friendly approach and willingness to connect make him a beloved figure in his community.
